I’m a New Zealand Lawyer – can I practise law in Australia?

The Trans-Tasman Mutual Recognition Legislation allows lawyers from New Zealand to apply for admission in Australia. The process doesn’t involve further study and usually takes a few months – significantly shorter than other jurisdictions.

I’m about to complete, or recently completed my law degree in New Zealand – can I practise law in Australia?

We have successfully recruited several law graduates from New Zealand in our Melbourne and Sydney offices. We will support you through your admission process in both jurisdictions.

Does Arnold Bloch Leibler cover my relocation costs?

Yes. We review relocation on a case-by-case basis when we make an offer.  This may include flights, temporary accommodation and other expenses associated with relocating. At a minimum, we will cover the costs associated with admission in Australia and obtaining your practising certificate.

How much post-admission experience do I need?

We have a long history of successful hires from New Zealand – from graduates through to more senior practitioners.  We look for smart and commercially savvy lawyers who will make a good cultural fit.  Whether you’re a final year law student, have recently been admitted in New Zealand, or have a few years under your belt, we’re keen to speak to bright and passionate lawyers looking to move to Australia.

Does Arnold Bloch Leibler have a public interest practice? If so, tell me more.

Making a contribution in the community is one of the firm’s core values. We are immensely proud of our community partnerships and of our Public Interest Law practice. We engage with not-for-profit and charitable organisations responsible for Indigenous, communal, social, artistic, medical, religious and environmental causes. In addition to the provision of pro bono legal services, many of our lawyers commit themselves to community based directorships, advisory committees, guest lectures and external fundraising activities.
