Access ABL: Litigation team interview with Elyse Hilton and Dominic Bilton

Dispute Resolution & Litigation
240423 ABL Podcast AF 056

In this episode of Access ABL, hosts Craig Evans and Natalie Ryan sit down with Elyse Hilton and Dominic Bilton from our Dispute Resolution & Litigation team. This episode provides an in-depth look at the dynamic and varied practice of litigation at ABL.

Elyse discusses the breadth of the practice, which includes general commercial litigation, class actions, regulatory investigations, white-collar crime, wills and estates, and Royal Commissions. Elyse notes, "It's very wide-ranging and you're not going to be doing the same thing on any one day. One day you might have a property case, the next you might be dealing with insolvency work".

Dominic, who started at ABL in the Property and Development team, shares his experience transitioning within the firm and working on a variety of matters. He highlights the benefits of ABL's collaborative culture, commenting, "You don't become an expert really quickly in one niche area. From a junior lawyer perspective, it's always different. You’re having to relearn a new area and then the next week you flick over to a whole different area".

The episode also explores the supportive environment created by the team. Elyse emphasises the importance of trust and collaboration, explaining, "To be able to do litigation properly and strategically, you need a team that is collaborative and trusts each other. It's important that junior lawyers feel comfortable to come to you at any point and say if they're having issues or think you're wrong".

"We might be doing something really intense, but it's also important that we're having fun while we're doing it."
