Arnold Bloch Leibler has advised Queensland property developer and home builder Ausbuild on the acquisition of a controlling 51 per cent stake in the business by Japanese manufacturing giant Sekisui Chemical for $335 million.
Ausbuild is one of Queensland’s leading family-owned property businesses, with a long history of residential development and home building across the state’s south-east. The business has built more than 10,000 homes and has a pipeline of approximately 4,500 more.
The transaction values Ausbuild at approximately $670 million and will see Sekisui Chemical become the majority shareholder in the business. Sekisui Chemical’s investment and expertise in modular home construction will support Ausbuild’s plans to expand further across South East Queensland.
ABL worked alongside Luminis Partners, which acted as financial adviser to Ausbuild on the transaction.
The ABL multi-practice team was led by Commercial/M&A partners Jeremy Leibler and Ari Bendet, supported by a cross-disciplinary team:
- Commercial/M&A: Michelle Ainsworth (Senior Associate), Tamara Wilson (Lawyer) and Aaron Low (Lawyer)
- Employment & Workplace Advisory: Bridget Little (Partner) and Sophia Charles (Senior Associate)
- Banking & Finance: Damien Cuddihy (Partner) and Jayden Casselson (Lawyer)
- Property: Matthew Davies (Partner)
- Competition: Matthew Lees (Partner)
- FIRB: Luke Jedynak (Partner)
Jeremy Leibler commented: “We are very pleased to have advised the Ausbuild team on this landmark transaction, reflecting another great Australian family business success story. We look forward to watching Ausbuild’s expansion plan throughout Queensland, with the support of Sekisui Chemical.”
