“Celebrity” attendance at ABL event in honour of Ray Finkelstein

176 15th Aug 23

As reported in the AFR, Arnold Bloch Leibler hosted a luncheon this week to launch a scholarship in the name of former Federal Court judge and great friend of the firm, Ray Finkelstein.

The paper’s legal editor, Michael Pelly, noted that both High Court Chief Justice Susan Kiefel and AFL captain Patrick Cripps both “made appearances” at the event, with Cripps sending a video message, describing Fink - a staunch supporter of the team - as an “icon at the bar, on the bench and in the stands”.

Chief Justice Kiefel spoke of Fink’s fine standing on the bench, while the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Karin Emerton, related his brilliance as a barrister who challenged and mentored countless young lawyers, including herself.

Senior partner Mark Leibler and partner Leon Zwier also paid tribute to Fink, addressing an array of senior members of the Victorian bar and the state judiciary who attended the luncheon.

The Ray Finkelstein Scholarship will support Indigenous and refugee students to study law at Fink’s alma mater, Monash University.
