Lady Anna was an extraordinary woman – wise, generous and charming, she took great pride in her Jewish heritage and immersed herself in community life. Her significant contribution to Australia was recognised in 2015 with her appointment as a Member of the Order of Australia for “significant service to youth, medical research, educational, historical and cultural organisations, and to the people of Australia through vice-regal patronages and support roles”.
For 66 years, Lady Anna was the much-loved wife of Sir Zelman Cowen, a giant of the law in whose name Arnold Bloch Leibler has dedicated one of its boardrooms.
Like her husband, Lady Anna was progressive in her thinking, and energetic in support of the causes that were important to her.
May her memory be a blessing.
