Arnold Bloch Leibler has successfully acted for six former non-executive directors of The Star Entertainment Group in civil penalty proceedings brought by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) in the Federal Court of Australia.
Following a lengthy trial in 2025, Justice Lee rejected ASIC’s case against the former non-executive directors, finding that ASIC had failed to establish that they had breached their duties of care and diligence as directors of Star.
The ABL team acting for the non-executive directors was led by partners Jonathan Milner, Stephen Lloyd, and Ben Friis-O’Toole. Robert Dick SC, Michael Henry SC, Zoë Hillman, Leanne Rich, Alicia Lyons and Zoe Bush appeared as counsel for the non-executive directors.
This was a significant and complex proceeding involving serious allegations against experienced non-executive directors.
We are pleased to have supported our clients through what has been an intense and closely watched case.
