Diverse panel discusses the art of PE matchmaking

Private Equity
PE event 1

With founders, entrepreneurs and family offices looking for alignment with private equity that goes well beyond the dollars on offer, ABL hosted a panel discussion in our Sydney office to explore the real-time evolution of the PE market, here in Australia and internationally.

Hosted by partners Jeremy Leibler, Scott Phillips and Christine Fleer, our panel of insiders, offering diverse, equally insightful perspectives included:

  • Marissa Freund, Managing Director and Head of M&A at Goldman Sachs Australia and New Zealand and a sitting member of the Takeovers Panel
  • Chris Adams, a private equity investment specialist with Five V Capital, and
  • Travis Knipe, CEO of StarRez, who sought ABL’s advice in relation to partnering with private equity investment firm Vista Equity.

The discussion traversed a range of current issues ABL is hearing from clients on both the buying and selling side. Our panellists explored how the intergenerational transfer of wealth might impact the PE sector with a new generation of high net worth family members determining asset allocation. They shared their insights into the factors driving the apparent reduction in recent M&A activity from PE buyers and took a punt at predicting what 2024 might look like in M&A markets. If there was one takeaway from the night it was the importance of cultural alignment in deal making which just reinforces the idea that the more things change the more they stay the same.

Guests attending the event included founders, investors and advisers representing a range of industry sectors.

The event was arranged with the assistance of Senior Associate Ari Bendet.
