Deputy Premier announces push for additional housing at ABL Annual Property Forum

Property & Development
042 27th April 23 v2

Addressing a who’s who of Melbourne’s property and development sector, Deputy Premier of Victoria and Minister for Transport and Infrastructure, the Hon Jacinta Allan MP, said the Victorian Government would be taking a more interventionist approach to ensure an additional one million homes within established suburbs by 2050.

As reported in today's AFR, Ms Allan conceded that Melbourne had fallen well short of the plan to accommodate 70 per cent of housing growth in existing suburbs. To address the shortfall, she said the government would recalibrate Plan Melbourne by reassessing its approach to planning.

This year’s Property Forum, including a panel discussion moderated by partner Gia Cari with the Deputy Premier, David Hall Chief Operating Officer of MAB Corporation, and Angela Buckley, General Manager of Mirvac Build To Rent, attracted more than 100 clients and friends of the firm.

In his opening remarks, lead partner of the firm’s property and development practice Tyrone McCarthy said ABL had been hosting the annual forum for almost a decade as an opportunity to bring together “movers and shakers” in the sector who operate across different stages of the development lifecycle.

“This whole of project approach reflects Arnold Bloch Leibler’s property and development practice, which is pretty well unique in the market in being able to advise across all stages of a development.”
