About Eileen
Eileen Liu is a senior associate in the firm's taxation practice in Melbourne.
Eileen advises across a broad range of tax matters and has a diverse client base, including ASX listed companies, large private groups, high-net-worth individuals and public interest clients.
She brings particular expertise in assisting private wealth clients and their accountants with navigating tax disputes, and to executive compensation and benefits matters, including employee share schemes. Eileen speaks fluent Mandarin.
Beyond her client work, Eileen has extensive experience presenting at conferences and events and is a member of the leadership committee for the Australian chapter of the Global Equity Organization. She has also published numerous papers including for leading journals such as the Australian Tax Review.
Practice Focus
Eileen’s practice focuses on the following areas:
- executive compensation and benefits, and employee share schemes;
- audits and reviews: managing all stages of ATO audits and reviews of clients’ income tax affairs and negotiating the resolutions of the outcomes of those audits and reviews;
- litigation: acting for clients in tax litigation including in the Federal Court of Australia and the Administrative Review Tribunal;
- commercial transactions: advising on mergers and acquisitions, restructures, and other corporate dealings;
- voluntary disclosures and private ruling applications; and
- public interest matters: including advising charitable and not-for-profit organisations in relation to their eligibility for income tax exemptions and deductible gift recipient status.

Experience
Eileen has acted for clients on a range of matters, including:
- litigation in the Federal Court of Australia and the Administrative Review Tribunal on substantive tax disputes;
- ongoing significant and complex tax reviews and audits concerning international and domestic transactions;
- advising a number of leading ASX listed companies, share registries, employee share trust providers, private companies and start-ups in relation to all aspects of the design and implementation of employee share schemes; and
- working on a prominent test case seeking to overturn the case law which prevents childcare expenses from being tax deductible. This has been covered in various media publications, such as the Australian Financial Review.

Eileen is a member of the Australian chapter leadership committee of the Global Equity Organization (GEO).
She is also a member of the following organisations:
- The Tax Institute; and
- International Fiscal Association (IFA).

- Eileen was shortlisted as a finalist in the taxation category of the 2025 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards.
