We asked newly promoted Arnold Bloch Leibler Senior Associate, Chris Murphy, about his predicted trends in his practice area for the next 12 months.

While COVID-19 will continue to have a significant impact on commercial litigation, restructuring & insolvency and insurance, I am expecting to see an uptick in fraud claims arising off the back of the COVID-19 induced working from home environment.

With more people than ever working away from the office, and the subsequent reduction in face to face contact between co-workers, there is a real risk that fraudsters will try to take advantage of this disconnect.

Companies will need to ensure they have adequate procedures, policies, and training in place to prevent this – to protect not only their own businesses, but to reduce the risk of claims being brought against them by impacted third-parties.

Chris Murphy is a Senior Associate in the firm’s litigation & dispute resolution team in Sydney. He has experience in class action proceedings, regulatory investigations and white-collar crime, financial services disputes, insolvency and restructuring, and general commercial litigation.
