Featured in the latest Australian Financial Review Law Partnership Survey as one of the youngest partner appointments this year, Gavin explains why he chose the law rather than following in his father’s footsteps into business.
After studying commerce-law at uni to “keep his options open”, when Gavin decided to become a commercial lawyer, his father was totally onboard.
"He saw my passion for the law and my aim to bring that entrepreneurial spirit into the law.
"A lot people think of law as a safe career - that it's a marathon, not a sprint. I like the business of the law ... the opportunity to grow with a client."
The AFR’s legal editor, Michael Pelly, identifies two clients who have provided such an opportunity to Gavin, entrepreneurial juggernauts Zip Co and Kogan.
"It's the firm's next generation of clients,” Gavin explains. “ABL has had established clients and they've been a large source of work for the firm. In the past five years, we have seen that next generation come though and we’ve been able to grown with them."
