Arnold Bloch Leibler has advised Impact Investment Group (IIG) and the van Haandel family on the $100+ million sale of the iconic Byron Bay Beach Hotel to Moelis Australia. The sale received global interest and has been reported as setting a new record for the biggest pub transaction in Australia.

IIG partnered with the hotel’s operators and local residents John and Lisa van Haandel, who have managed the hotel (nicknamed the “Beachie” by locals) since 2007, to sell the landmark property along with the hotel operating business.

Partner Tyrone McCarthy, Senior Associate Brianna Youngson and Lawyer Emily Moreton advised IIG on the freehold sale and Partner Ken Gray and Senior Associate Emily Simmons acted for the van Haandel family on the sale of the business.

Tyrone commented on the firm’s involvement in the sale: “We’re delighted to have supported IIG and the van Haandel family on the sale of this iconic property and we look forward to assisting both of these clients in further transactions in the future.”

The Beach Hotel located on Byron Bay’s Main Beach was developed by Australian actor Paul Hogan’s manager and filmmaker, John Cornell, in the early 1990s, mainly from the proceeds of their film Crocodile Dundee.
