About Leonie

Leonie Thompson joined ABL in 1994 and was admitted to the partnership in 1998. Leonie is no longer a full time litigation partner, however she continues to maintain her relationship with the firm through the provision of mentoring and other strategic support.

Prior to joining ABL Leonie was a lawyer in the Victorian Government Solicitor’s Office.

Practice focus

She occasionally works in an advisory capacity with other partners on client matters however, her primary focus is now on the development of internal programs and strategies to support women lawyers in the firm.

Directorships & memberships

 Leonie is currently a member of the Greening Australia Governance Committee and formerley a member of the Pitcher Partners’ Risk Committee.


Leonie formerly managed the litigation department and was a key commercial litigation partner. She had a diverse practice with a focus on large complex litigation, public law matters, commissions of inquiry and white collar crime matters. In addition to litigious matters, Leonie undertook complex advisory work in the areas of corporate governance, directors’ duties, risk management and due process and general commercial strategic advice. She had a number of pro-bono clients including the Australian Conservation Foundation and other charitable bodies. She also acted for major Australian corporate clients, various private clients and government.
