The ABL event - held in collaboration with Wantok Musik Foundation and MPavilion - was a celebration of the cultural diversity of our region.
Frank Yamma is an influential singer/song-writer from Central Australia and The Mystic Trio are three musicians with their roots in Timor Leste. Both are represented by Wantok Musik - a not-for-profit music label representing Indigenous and world music groups of Oceania and Melanesia. ABL Partner Peter Seidel serves on the Board of Wantok and our Public Interest practice advises the organisation on a broad range of legal issues.
MPavilion, of which ABL is a major partner, is commissioned by the Naomi Milgrom Foundation and is located in the Queen Victoria Gardens in the centre of Melbourne’s Southbank Arts Precinct. This year’s space was designed by influential Barcelona-based architect Carme Pinós of Estudio Carme Pinós – Carme is the first female Spanish architect to receive a public commission in Australia.
ABL hosts Christine Fleer and Peter Seidel summed up the night as “a special delight for ABL to have been given the opportunity to host this magnificent event at the beautiful MPavilion, promoting and supporting Indigenous cultures of Australia and our closest Melanesian neighbours. For us it was a perfect ABL way of celebrating with our friends what we do and why we do it - an enriching night of musical performances showcased by an important client of the firm in such an elegant setting generously gifted to Melbourne by another of our important clients”.
