About Vicki

Vicki Bell practises in the firm’s litigation & dispute resolution department with a particular focus on restructuring and insolvency and complex commercial disputes.

Vicki graduated from Monash University with first class honours and subsequently completed a Masters of Law at Melbourne University and a Diploma of Financial Markets at FINSIA. She is one of only two Melbourne-based solicitors to be designated a Fellow of INSOL International, having completed the INSOL Global Insolvency Law & Practice course in March 2016.

She has extensive experience advising both secured lenders and creditors on all aspects of restructuring and insolvency, including enforcement, priority disputes, directors’ liability, workouts and appointment issues. Vicki also has experience in a vast range of general commercial disputes including international arbitrations, shareholder class actions and regulatory enforcement and compliance matters.

Vicki joined Arnold Bloch Leibler as an articled clerk in 2005 and was admitted to practice in 2006. In 2008, she moved to Minter Ellison’s dispute resolution and insolvency group and returned to Arnold Bloch Leibler at the beginning of 2016.

Vicki is an Honorary Solicitor of Yachting Victoria and a member of the Turnaround Management Association and INSOL International.


Vicki has acted in a range of matters, including on behalf of:

  • Elders Ltd: in respect of the restructure and sale of its forestry business;
  • McGrathNicol: as receivers and managers of the Great Southern group where the secured creditors were owed in excess of $500 million and as the receivers and managers of two property trusts relating to Gunns Ltd managed investment schemes;
  • various international automotive part manufacturers: advising in relation to restructuring and exit from the Australian market;
  • Westpac Banking Corporation, ANZ Banking Group, National Australia Bank and BOSI: securities enforcement advice and implementation;
  • various corporate entities and individuals: regarding unfair preference claims and applications to set aside statutory demands;
  • private corporations: conducting internal investigations into allegations of bribery and corruption of foreign officials and internal fraud;
  • various Financial Services Licensees: in relation to alleged statutory breaches by authorised licensed representatives;
  • Department of Premier and Cabinet: advised in relation to civil contempt proceedings ultimately issued against the CFMEU;
  • Department of Primary Industries: advised in relation to the Hazelwood coal mine fire inquiry;
  • ex-officers and directors of OZ Minerals Ltd: in class action proceedings concerning the merger of Zinifex Ltd and Oxiana Ltd;
  • Visy group: in proceedings brought by the ACCC in respect of an alleged cartel in the cardboard box industry;
  • ANZ Banking Group: in a Supreme Court proceeding arising from the collapse of Opes Prime Stockbroking;
  • Select Harvests Ltd: Victorian Supreme Court proceeding regarding the termination of a management agreement; and
  • Oil Basins: in a commercial arbitration over royalties payable to Oil Basins by BHP-Biliton, Esso Australia Resources and others in respect of a gas and oil field in the Bass Strait, Australia.
