Arnold Bloch Leibler supports the ‘yes’ vote for marriage equality

Arnold Bloch Leibler supports the ‘yes’ vote for marriage equality
From 12 September ballots will be sent out giving Australians the opportunity to vote ‘yes’ or ‘no’ for same-sex marriage. Arnold Bloch Leibler supports the ‘yes’ vote because a person’s gender or sexual orientation should not prevent them from marrying the person they love.

At the heart of Arnold Bloch Leibler’s support lies the fundamental importance to us of equal treatment of all before the law. Changing the law to allow same sex marriage can and should be done in a way that will not impact on freedom of religion or religious practice.  It is not a question of religion, but of equality.

As a matter of fundamental justice and international human rights law, discrimination on the basis of a person’s sexuality should be removed from the Marriage Act. The institution of marriage will be enhanced, not diminished, by this change.

We believe that the majority of Australians are in favour of this straightforward reform. It is well and truly time for our laws to reflect that.
